Sodium cyclamate is a widely used artificial sweetener that is non-nutritive and has a pure, natural sweet taste without peculiar smell. It was first discovered in 1937 and has been widely applied in various fields since the 1950s.

It is characterized by high sweetness, which is 30 to 80 times that of sucrose. Meanwhile, it has good stability, being resistant to heat and acid-base, and not easy to ferment or get damp, making it easy to store and transport.

In the food industry, sodium cyclamate is commonly used in a variety of products to replace sucrose. It can be added to beverages, candied fruits, preserved fruits, frozen drinks, pastries, biscuits, compound condiments and other foods, helping to reduce the use of sucrose and control the calorie content of products.

It is also suitable for people with diabetes and obesity, as it provides a low-calorie, high-sweetness alternative to sugar and does not cause a sharp rise in blood sugar levels.

In addition to the food industry, sodium cyclamate is also used in daily chemical products such as cosmetics and toothpaste, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry for making sugar coatings and syrups.

Humans do not absorb sodium cyclamate, and almost all of it is excreted in the original form in feces. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) recommends an acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0 to 11mg/kg body weight, which is considered safe when used reasonably.
