Phthalic anhydride is a core bulk organic chemical raw material produced mainly through catalytic oxidation of petrochemical raw materials in large-scale industrial production. It carries a distinctive pungent choking odor and features easy sublimation when heated under regular ambient pressure, with stable chemical performance under dry storage conditions.

Its most dominant application lies in manufacturing various plasticizers that are widely matched with PVC plastic materials, improving product flexibility, cold resistance and processing ductility for plastic finished goods such as plastic films, pipes and artificial leather. Besides plasticizer production, it serves as key monomer feedstock to synthesize alkyd resin and unsaturated polyester resin, which are essential raw materials for industrial coatings, paint, fiberglass composite products and anticorrosion coating materials.
