Ethylene-Propylene Copolymer (OCP) is a kind of high-performance non-polar polymer additive, which is synthesized through the copolymerization of ethylene and propylene monomers under specific catalytic conditions. The ratio of ethylene to propylene in its molecular structure can be adjusted according to application needs, and this structural flexibility makes it have excellent compatibility with various mineral base oils and synthetic lubricating oils, ensuring stable dispersion without stratification or precipitation during long-term storage and use.
In terms of core functions, OCP is mainly used as a viscosity index improver in lubricant formulations, and it also has certain auxiliary effects on improving the shear stability of lubricants. As a viscosity index improver, it can effectively reduce the sensitivity of lubricant viscosity to temperature changes. At high temperatures, the polymer molecular chains stretch, increasing the internal friction of the oil and preventing excessive viscosity reduction, thus maintaining a sufficient thickness of the oil film to lubricate the friction pairs of mechanical equipment and avoid dry friction. At low temperatures, the molecular chains curl up tightly, minimizing the increase in oil viscosity, ensuring good fluidity of the lubricant, and facilitating the cold start of equipment.
Its good shear stability enables it to resist the strong shear force generated by mechanical movement during long-term use, and the molecular structure is not easy to break, thus maintaining stable viscosity index improvement performance and avoiding rapid degradation of lubricant performance. In addition, OCP has good compatibility with other lubricant additives such as antioxidants, anti-wear agents and metal deactivators, and can exert synergistic effects to further improve the overall performance of lubricants.
OCP is widely used in the formulation of multi-grade engine oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils and industrial lubricants, and is especially suitable for the preparation of high-performance lubricants for equipment working under variable temperature conditions.
