Methyl Cellulose is a type of water-soluble cellulose ether derived from the methylation of natural cellulose. It is a non-ionic polymer that exhibits unique thermal gelation properties, which means it dissolves in cold water to form a clear, viscous solution but will gel when heated to a specific temperature range.
It has excellent thickening, stabilizing, emulsifying, film-forming and water-retention capabilities. In construction applications, it is widely used as an additive in cement-based materials to improve workability, reduce water loss during the curing process, and enhance the adhesion and strength of the final products.
In the personal care and cosmetics industry, it acts as a thickener, emulsifier and texture modifier in formulations such as creams, lotions, hair styling products and toothpastes, helping to maintain the desired consistency and improve product spreadability.
