odium methylene bis-naphthalene sulfonate, commonly known as Dispersant NNO, is a typical anionic surfactant. It usually appears as an off-white or slightly yellow powder, which is easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is neutral. This substance has excellent diffusion, emulsification, wetting and dispersion properties.

1. Basic Characteristics

  1. Surface ActivityIt can significantly reduce the surface tension of water. It can be adsorbed on the surface of solid particles to form an electric double layer, which generates electrostatic repulsion between particles, prevents agglomeration, and thus improves the dispersion stability of the system.
  2. Chemical StabilityIt is resistant to acid, alkali and hard water, and maintains stable performance in a wide pH range (5-12). However, it is prone to decomposition in a strong oxidant environment, which will affect the use effect.
  3. CompatibilityIt can be compounded with most anionic surfactants and non-ionic surfactants. But it should not be directly mixed with cationic surfactants, otherwise precipitation will occur and the activity will be reduced.

2. Main Application Fields

  1. Dye and Printing & Dyeing IndustryThis is the most important application field of sodium methylene bis-naphthalene sulfonate. As a dye dispersant, it can grind and refine insoluble or sparingly soluble disperse dyes, vat dyes, etc., and stably disperse them in dye liquor. It prevents the agglomeration of dye particles, ensures uniform dyeing, and improves the color fastness and color brightness of fabrics. Meanwhile, it can also be used as a diffusion auxiliary in printing processes to improve printing effects.
  2. Pesticide IndustryIt is used in the preparation of pesticide wettable powders and suspending agents. It can evenly disperse pesticide technical particles in water-based systems, improve the suspension rate of pesticide liquid, enable the effective components of pesticides to adhere to crop surfaces better, enhance pesticide efficacy and reduce pesticide loss.
  3. Coating and Pigment IndustryAs a pigment dispersant, it is applicable to latex paints, water-based coatings, inks and other systems. It helps disperse pigments such as titanium dioxide, carbon black and iron oxide, prevents pigment flocculation and sedimentation, and improves the storage stability of coatings as well as the gloss and uniformity of coating films.
  4. Building Materials IndustryIn building materials such as concrete and mortar, it can be used as a water reducer or dispersion auxiliary, which improves the fluidity of materials, reduces mixing water consumption, and enhances the strength and durability of concrete. It can also be used in ceramic production to help disperse ceramic raw materials and improve the forming quality of billets.
  5. Other FieldsIn the mineral processing industry, it can be used as a pulp dispersant to improve the flotation conditions of mineral particles. In detergent formulations, it can assist in enhancing decontamination ability. It can also be applied in the papermaking industry to improve the dispersion effect of fillers and additives.

3. Notes

  • Sodium methylene bis-naphthalene sulfonate has low toxicity, but dust inhalation should be avoided during production and use. It is recommended to wear protective masks and gloves during operation.
  • It should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place to prevent moisture absorption and caking.
