Polyetheramine, commonly abbreviated as PEA, is a class of amine-terminated polyether compounds. It is a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid with good fluidity at room temperature, and its viscosity varies with the molecular weight of the polyether chain. PEA has excellent solubility in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers and hydrocarbons, and also shows good compatibility with gasoline, diesel and various lubricating oils.
It is synthesized through the reaction of polyether glycol and ammonia under specific temperature and pressure conditions, and its molecular structure combines the flexibility of polyether chains and the reactivity of amine groups. This unique structure endows PEA with both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, making it a key raw material for high-performance fuel additives and industrial chemicals. Since its commercialization, PEA has been widely used in the automotive fuel additive field, especially favored in the production of premium gasoline detergents, due to its excellent carbon deposit removal performance and environmental friendliness.

Core Functions of PEA

  1. High-efficiency fuel detergent for automotive enginesThis is the most core and widely recognized application of PEA. As the active ingredient in high-grade gasoline additives and fuel cleaners, PEA can effectively remove carbon deposits accumulated on fuel injectors, intake valves, piston tops and combustion chambers of gasoline engines. It can also form a protective film on the metal surface of the engine fuel system, preventing new carbon deposits from adhering. This function helps restore engine power, improve fuel combustion efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and lower emissions of harmful substances such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, while also extending the service life of engine components.
  2. Raw material for epoxy resin curing agentsPEA serves as a high-performance curing agent for epoxy resins. It can react with epoxy groups to form a three-dimensional cross-linked structure, endowing the cured epoxy resin with excellent toughness, impact resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and low-temperature flexibility. This makes it widely used in the production of high-grade coatings, adhesives, composite materials and electronic potting compounds, suitable for harsh application scenarios such as aerospace, automotive manufacturing and marine engineering.
  3. Additive for lubricating oils and metalworking fluidsAdding a small amount of PEA to lubricating oils or metalworking fluids can improve the lubrication performance and anti-wear effect of the products. It can form a stable adsorption film on the metal surface, reducing friction and wear between moving parts, and also enhance the anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion properties of lubricating oils, extending the service life of the lubricating system and equipment.
  4. Raw material for water treatment chemicalsThanks to its amphiphilic structure and reactive amine groups, PEA can be used to synthesize water treatment agents such as scale inhibitors and dispersants. These agents can effectively disperse suspended solids in water, prevent the formation and deposition of scales on the inner walls of pipelines and heat exchangers, and improve the efficiency of water treatment systems and the service life of equipment.
